House of the Dragon Weekly Reviews

We’re back! We’re back! WE’RE BACK!!!!! It’s been three years since one of the greatest shows of all time took its final bow. Since that time, we’ve all been wondering, “What will be the prequel that we see first?” People debated over what it should be. They also debated over the final season and the final episode of Game of Thrones but we are not going to go down that sour road. Because it’s a happy day! The premiere of HBO’s highly anticipated, House of the Dragon, dropped on Sunday August 21st at 9pm EST. And just like that, we were brought back into George R R Martin’s world of family, deception, politics, violence, sex, and dragons.

In the age of streaming, we watch TV very differently. At least the hubby and I do. We binge through entire seasons. If a series comes out one week at a time, we wait until the entire season is out, and then we watch it over the weekend. We also die with anticipation over when the next season comes out (looking at you Yellowstone Season 5). When we were younger, we would see when our favorite shows were airing, and you didn’t schedule anything for that time. Like Thursdays on NBC when I was in college, we watched Mad About You, Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld, and ER. We didn’t go out or talk to anyone until after those shows. Game of Thrones was like those old days for us. Every Sunday night at 9pm, we were in front of the TV. House of the Dragon, will be the same. I love it because we don’t watch any other show like that. It tells you how special GOT was and how special this new series could be.

Now, I am no Westeros expert….just a huge fan. I am also not a book reader. I like to read the books after the series. I don’t have the in depth knowledge of the Targaryen family history and every king and every in bred marriage over 200 years. Nor do I remember every family and lineage from GOT that’s been referenced in HOTD, that isn’t a major family. Now of course when Rikkon Stark pledged his allegiance, I knew that name. Because of that, I’m going to break this down a bit differently. HOTD for Dummies, if you will. For the diehards, this might be a pretty rudimentary recap/review for you. For those of you who have a life outside of the George R R Martin world or are new to HOTD, this might be up your alley. This is what we’ll look at every week:

  • Who Did We Meet?
  • Key Areas of Westeros
  • Major Storylines
  • Major Battles
  • Who Died?
  • Projections
    • Where do I want to see this go
    • Where do I think it will actually go

I could adjust this if it makes sense, but I think this is the best way for me to formulate my thoughts for you and you can jump to certain sections you deem important for you. The other key here….this is a spoiler free zone. Like I said, I haven’t read the books and don’t try to find the episodes online before the drop on Sunday nights. So if you want to come on here and spoil the rest of us, you will be blocked, comments will be deleted, and I will destroy you like Cersei destroyed the Great Sept of Baelor.

Strap into your dragons and hop on with me, because this is going to be an amazing ride!
